First time I used cold wax medium. Not sure if I will use this again. Mixing and thinning and drying time, not sure if it is worth the effort.

The prep of the canvas with acrylic wash, hardly any texture other that the tooth of the canvas

The tools - plans change ended up using the 1" and 2" brushes. The 4" brush wouldn't fit into my solvent can. Need a new can. lol

The scary part - is this gonna work?

Finished. --- for now -- maybe it'll change with fresh eyes.

Plein Air at REd Rocks

Red Rocks 11x14 oil

Painting with friends at Red Rocks. It was a cold morning, 28 deg, but with in an hour it warmed up enough, 45- 50, to take off our coats. The wind pushed us to take shelter next to the rocks by the tunnel. There was snow melting and falling behind up to offer a zen sound to paint by.

What a gas it is to get inspired on the first stroke of a knife. The Terraplane Blue was started with a heavy texture of gesso (acrylic primer) and then palette knife through out. yum. Hope on the Horizon was on canvas so I didn't use a lot of texture. So the comparison was leaving me with wanting to do more texture work. Now to find panels and frames. Always a challenge some where. lol

Time to move? or clean?

Now that I know that comments are working or sort of working, I will start leaving some notes to share with everyone. These are little gouache studies that are meant to just keep the juices going and possibly move into larger paintings. Which ones do you think would look good in a larger size and what size? Craw Dad Nest looks like it would be fun as a 30x40 or so. Something about microcosm painted macro size is fun. Once saw a tree frog painted 4'x5' that made me smile and a painted turtles head, head only, about 30x40 that was pretty cute. Not necessarily great art but fun images.
