Totally faked out by the weather forcast. I was expecting rain in the morning and found sunshine. I thought the morning would be gloomy and wet. Ok, so I can't always trust the forcast. Got a late start out to Castle Wood Canyon with only my camera. Nice shots but the sun played peek-a-boo through the clouds. I am still expecting a heavy rain/snow. So, in the mean time, since I didn't do a painting, here are a couple of studio pieces I am working on. Hope to see you next week at Red Rocks.

Today was one of those days where the weather was so nice that I couldn't stop hiking. The cool air, warm sunshine, the tiny tiny buds on the trees and the memories of all the times that I hiked this area to catch fish. I took a few pictures so when I got home and after I took care of business, I painted this piece from a photo. I didn't realize that I was still in work frame of mind until I stepped back and looked at the results. Straight lines and rigid forms. oof. Real illustrator-ish.

Today was supposed to be cold, wet and maybe snowy, but Colorado has granted us another beautiful day. I have been working on improving arch. elements in paintings. So I am practicing up for urban scenes. Maybe when the Denver Plein Air festival comes around again I will be better prepared. I can see some improvement. This is the building at Carson Nature Center in Littleton. The park ranger that I spoke with said there was a bald eagle in the trees by the lake. I didn't see him but just knowing he was around, I kept my eyes in the sky.

Oh what a beautiful day. The sun is shining the wind is cool the colors are amazing. Here at the East side of Bear Creek Green Belt there is a lot of open space and many painters went to the bridge to paint the stream. I kept finding more and more stuff to paint as I walked along the path that I didn't realize how far I went. When I turned back to see a view I thought maybe I should pick something. Here is a tree that had a sign in it, way up high. It said "Nature Tree, Protect it." Set up like a street sign. How cool is that.

Bluff Lake Nature Center is a nice place to go for hiking and enjoying a slice of open space in an urban area. This painting is an attempt to try something different. It is for me, painting outside the box. This sketch might get re-worked to straighted up some of the edges and move some of the shapes to different planes but what a challenge. Whatcha think?
